What is a Press Release?

A “press release” is promotional text issued by a rider, team, company or organization to inform
the public about an event, product, or service from the issuer’s own point of view, and if deemed
to have news value, may be placed on roadracingworld.com as a service to our readers.

A press release is not an article written by Roadracingworld.com staffers. When a post is labeled with the words “press release”, it means that Roadracingworld.com is not responsible for its content and that Roadracingworld.com makes no guarantee that it is accurate. Not all press releases are posted and Roadracingworld.com may reject press releases if the content is too heavy on commercial promotion with little or no news value or if the press release contains obvious errors.

Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha’s Jake Gagne earned his eighth pole position of the 2022 season in advance of this afternoon’s MotoAmerica Medallia Superbike race one at Barber Motorsports Park. Gagne, who used his teammate Cameron Petersen as a rabbit in Q2, set a new lap record in the process – a 1:22.035 – to beat Petersen’s day-old record from Friday.

Gagne’s qualifying effort puts him in perfect position to defend his championship as he will start both races from the point. He said that chasing Petersen helped him shave time off his best lap and also referred to Barber as “Petersen Motorsports Park.” Petersen loves Barber and it was the site of his first career Superbike victory last year.

While Gagne is confident and calm, his rival for the championship – Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati NYC’s Danilo Petrucci – is at the other end of the spectrum. Although he went faster than yesterday, the Italian is still struggling to get comfortable and will line up on the second row of the grid after qualifying fifth.

In between Gagne and Petrucci are Petersen, Westby Racing’s Mathew Scholtz and Tytlers Cycle Racing’s PJ Jacobsen.

Scholtz’ best put him a tick over a second off Gagne’s best with Jacobsen just .186 of a second behind Scholtz. Despite improvements over yesterday, Petrucci is 1.3 seconds behind Gagne.

7 Of McLaren's Greatest Ever Road Cars

The second coming. Originally called the MP4-12C and later dropping the prefix to become simply the 12C, McLaren’s first road car since the F1 was revealed in 2009 and entered production in 2011 as McLaren’s first wholly designed and built car. The car is based around a carbon fiber composite chassis and the McLaren M838T engine. Developed in-house, the engine is a flat-plane crank design twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 that made 592 horsepower at 7,500 rpm. Essentially, it’s based on an IndyCar race car engine designed by Tom Walkinshaw Racing but never saw competition.

In independent testing, the 12C has hit 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, but the race car technology didn’t end with the engine. It introduced brake steer to road cars, where the inside rear wheel brakes slightly during fast cornering to reduce understeer. The most significant difference compared to other supercars of the time was its computer and valve-controlled hydraulic suspension in place of a typical system using coil springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars. The 12C was designed with a convertible version in mind, and the retractable hardtop Spyder version is shown below.

Starting from sixth on the grid in the first race of the weekend for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, former MotoAmerica Superbike race winner and current GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team rider Garrett Gerloff finished third, which was the best result of his 2022 campaign and his first podium this season.

After a bit of a slow start in Friday’s qualifying sessions, Gerloff came on like gangbusters in Saturday’s Superpole session. From his second-row starting position for Race 1, the Texan overtook defending World Superbike Champion and fellow Yamaha rider Toprak Razgatlioglu on his way to a podium finish.

Gerloff’s third place result was his sixth career podium in the Superbike World Championship and his first podium since Donington Park Race 2 in 2021. It was also Yamaha’s 325th race with one of their riders landing on the WorldSBK podium.
