The child king decides the weekend schedule, his parents who no longer dare to say “no” to him for fear that he will fly into a rage, friends who have not found a way to see each other since they became parents… We are a long way from the time when the children came after parents!

Some even say that the “king child” flourishes in our cottages…

Why this new trend for one or even two generations?

Some will say that it is because of this new “positive education“, and that by wanting to consider the child too much, he ends up taking over. But this is then to confuse “positive” education with “permissive” education…

The child king does not have parents connected to positive education, but rather parents who do not have the strength (or the desire) to fight, nor to manage conflicts with patience.

And that is understandable! Working mothers don’t want the 2 hours they spend in the evening with their children to turn into a daily hassle. Dads, now much more involved in the education of their children, do not want to take on the role of the authoritarian father who rages and punishes (and they are quite right!). These dads also want to enjoy their children, and make sure that the time spent together does not turn into a pitched battle.

Added to this are the separated parents who only spend one weekend out of two with their offspring, and who do not wish to “waste” this shared time by upsetting their children. Just like parents who feel guilty for not being present enough and who want to make every moment spent together a “good” moment.

Finally, the importance given to children may be accentuated by the new difficulties that many parents encounter in having a baby. This first child (or the only one) is all the more pampered, as it has been expected, perhaps even unexpected.

In short, we are a long way from the generation of our grandparents, where we took care of the children because they were there, their status as children giving them practically no rights over the world of adults! “In my time, the children did not have the floor at the table! as your parents or grandparents may tell you…

For all these reasons (and many more), parents today are pressured to give in more to the wishes of their children.

We will also see in a future article how to say no to your child while avoiding triggering anger. In the meantime, even if we have every reason to put the wishes of our little ones before our own, one thing is certain:

Our well-being is as important as theirs!

First of all because all beings are equal, and if the time when parents were overpowering is now over, it is not a question of the roles being reversed either!

Then because it will be difficult for a child to flourish in contact with parents who are tired, stressed, under pressure. It is our good humor that will allow us to manage our children with patience and humor. Tired or stressed, we are much more likely to get upset… (But don’t worry, even if we are upset, there are solutions to stay caring :-), see the article: Caring parents, you have the right to be angry, but not just anyhow…)

Feeling good about yourself as a parent also means feeling good about yourself as a couple. We all know the sad statistics of 2 out of 3 couples who end up divorced (at least in Paris). The family is made up of the parent-child relationship, but also of the relationship between the parents. Even if it’s not always obvious, our children shouldn’t make us forget that… At the risk, moreover, of only seeing their parents part-time.

Finally, considering that our well-being is as important as that of our child is also the best way to make him understand that he is not the center of the Earth, and to prevent him from becoming a child. King. Because even if we love him very much, we cannot give him everything, our well-being is equal.

The freedom of children ends where that of adults begins

“You can’t go to that dance class because it’s Saturday morning at 9am, and it’s too much of a hassle for us to take you there, I’m sorry.” But in two years when you are old enough to go alone, you will be able to”.

“I know you want to have dinner with the grown-ups, but tonight we want to meet up with adults. Tomorrow, if you want, we will all have lunch together”.

“I understand that you don’t feel like sleeping, but we want to have a quiet dinner with Dad so you stay in your room.” You can play if you’re not sleepy, but you don’t disturb us”.

How to make our child respect the limits while being benevolent? The site is full of articles on the subject, such as:

– “You stop playing with that”… “What did I tell you?! » How to be effective and benevolent?

– How to reason with a child in full ‘whim’?

– When the energy of our children tires us …

Conclusion on the child king

So yes, when we work, we can quickly feel guilty for not spending enough time with our children, but that’s no reason to accept all their wishes to the detriment of ours. We risk teaching them that their desires come before those of others. This does not mean either that, conversely, they must be refused everything. The goal is to find compromises that make him happy and make us happy. It’s all about measuring between his need and ours 🙂

More than an ordinary accessory protecting the eyes from the sun’s rays and the salt of sweat, the cap is a gesture in itself. A dividing line between winners and losers, a sign of rallying between players and spectators, it ends up emerging from its inner circle of well-born people and becomes popular thanks to new champions who have come, hard-fought, from other worlds. When the star rappers of the 1990s pose under the flashes with their supporter caps, it is the whole cultural, social and political history of the struggles for equality which, in this form of coronation, is summoned.

1. The winemaker is a man

In reality, the winemaker is often… a couple. Traditionally, men were put forward because they were in charge of production. While the wives specialized in the administrative and commercial management of the estate, logistics and hospitality. Women have therefore always been present, even if their role was less visible. Today, in small structures in particular, the responsibilities are balanced, and we regularly find the woman in the cellar, developing the blends, while the men focus on the plant. More rarely the opposite, although it happens. The largest structures are also organized around siblings, sometimes with brothers, sisters and their respective spouses in the field. As for female business leaders, they are no longer rare, and now even head 30% of wineries! To set an example for the younger generations, some come together in regional associations: Les Aliénor du vin de Bordeaux, Etoiles en Beaujolais, Les Eléonores de Provence, Vinifilles en Occitanie, diVINes d’Alsace, etc.

2. The winemaker hasn’t done much studying

Admittedly, it is possible to embrace the profession at a very young age, with a professional aptitude certificate (CAP) level “vine and wine”, the basic diploma to become a wine worker. Or with a professional baccalaureate in “driving and managing the wine business”. But, to lead a field, from production to marketing, it’s a bit short. So much so that the winegrowers have at least a bac + 2 level, type certificate of higher agricultural technician (BTSA) in viticulture-oenology, which trains the heads of cultivation, or bac +3 with a professional license. The choices are therefore numerous, depending on the university institute chosen, from “strategic management of the vitivinicultural exploitation”, “oenocontrol” to “innovation and globalization in viticulture and oenology”, degree in organic farming or in commerce. Finally, the royal road to manage the production of a vast domain remains the engineering degree or the master’s degree (bac +5 level), in viticulture, oenology, vitivinicultural management… The two best known schools are the Institut Agro Montpellier and Bordeaux Sciences Agro. In family structures, it is common for one of the children to specialize in winemaking with a national diploma in oenology (bac +5).

3. The winegrower seldom leaves his home

As an extension of his studies, the young winegrower went to work abroad or at least in other regions. These are often experiences related to his terroir, which allow him to compare different methods to face similar challenges. Thus, those from the Sancerre appellation, where Sauvignon reigns supreme, go to New Zealand, where this grape is also doing wonders. Bordeaux residents look to Australia or California, where the bordeaux blend, merlot-cabernet-sauvignon blend, as in the Médoc, has become a classic. People from the Loire who grow chenin sometimes go to South Africa, another adopted country for this rare grape variety. Others cut their teeth in prestigious Burgundian and Bordeaux estates, to acquire the reflexes “of the best”. It has finally become rare for the new generation to take over the reins of the family estate without having smelled other cellars or tried other techniques.

“It’s a disaster, really…” On this April morning, in Blois in the Loir-et-Cher, rain lashed the distressed face of Sylvie Delahodde, head of the condominium trustee of this commercial area, as there are thousands in France. Inaugurated in 2017, the site has found its place between an automotive injector factory and a carpenter’s warehouse.

Its main building, made of sheet metal and concrete, housed a discount hypermarket for two years before giving way to a weight room, a franchised bakery, a household appliance store and a pet store. Next door, Courtepaille and KFC. In the center, a large paved parking lot with sixty-six diseased or dead shrubs.

Eight months earlier, at the same locations, there were sixty-six tall, vigorous trees, leafy enough to shade cars or protect Uber Eats delivery people from bad weather. “The area is not the most aesthetic, but with all these trees, it looked great”, assures Christophe Degruelle, president of the urban community of Blois.

Chainsaw Massacre

Except that one afternoon in September 2021, without warning, all these trees were cut down. Cropped flush. It took less than three hours for a cohort of workers to overcome it. Onlookers and shop employees attended, terrified, the disastrous spectacle. “Between two cuts, a guy just assured us that it was to see the signs better from the road”, remembers a saleswoman. Felling of trees to make room for shops: more and more inhabitants of more or less large cities are sorry for this anti-ecological arbitration.

A handful of photos of the ransacking of the Blois site then emerged on Facebook and then Twitter. An article appears in The New Republic. The local radio Sweet FM relays the popular amazement. In an open letter addressed to the owner of the commercial area, Christophe Degruelle and the mayor of Blois, Marc Gricourt (PS), denounce “an unacceptable ecological massacre and practices that run counter to all the policies carried out in favor of the environment, biodiversity and the fight against global warming”. They require the new operator in the area, who has just bought this set, to replant everything identically, “in accordance with the building permit”.

A bluff, because the city councilors are well aware of their inability to act on private land. “According to our legal services, we were there in a situation of lawlessness since the owner did not need authorization to cut the trees, explains Christophe Degruelle. However, these trees were included in the building permit filed and accepted at the town hall. »

Since 2019, on the walls of metropolitan areas and the storefronts of small towns in France, messages pasted, letter by letter, all black on a white background, challenge passers-by against gender-based violence. Marie Perennès and Simon Depardon set out to meet the young women who, at nightfall, stick these poignant and hard-hitting slogans.

“We are not going to reduce the number of feminicides in France in 2022, but we want to bring our little stone to raise awareness. » Marie Perennes

From their tour of ten cities in France, the couple shot feminist response, presented on May 22 at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the Special Sessions. A documentary film, joyful and dark, which voluntarily ignored the violent tensions which tore the movement apart in 2020 on the transsexual question. “The media talked a lot about the dissensions but in our experience and in our encounters, it was not dominant or essential”, justifie Marie Perennès.

Photo specialist and curator at the Cartier Foundation, where she has just signed the retrospective of the Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide after having been co-curator of the exhibition “We the trees”, Marie Perennès, 30, has a militant streak.

In June 2020, at the end of the first confinement, the young woman, marked by the #metoo movement, discovered a first collage at the foot of the building where the couple lives, in the 15e district of Paris. Two days later, she accompanies some gluers and affixes her first message, borrowed from the author Virginie Despentes: “Privilege is having the choice to think about it or not. In the street, I cannot forget that I am a woman”, taken from his letter to a “white friend”.

Overcome deception syndrome

The desire is quickly imposed to dedicate a film to these young activists who stand up against the patriarchy. A film that assumes itself as feminist, militant and committed, giving no voice to any man. A cinema film and not a doc for TV, so that it “stay more in time”. This film, they conceive it as that of a woman and a man, her companion, Simon Depardon, 31 years old. It even engages the whole family since it owes a lot to the determination of their producer, Claudine Nougaret, who for twenty-five years has shared the life of photographer and documentary filmmaker Raymond Depardon, Simon’s father.

To carry out this project, the young couple had to overcome their own doubts. “The Deception Syndrome”for Marie Perennes, whose Feminist response is the first try behind the camera. As for Simon Depardon, he must accept the inevitable comparison with Raymond, this master of the cinema of the real who documented everything, France of course, from every angle, the Indians of Peru, Biafra or even Soweto… From the father, the young Simon inherited the faded blue eye, the passion for reality, the obsession with the right tone: to film at the level of a man or rather in this case a woman. Set up the tripod at night while the splicers are busy, so as not to “not to add emotion to the anguish”. Keep the camera on your shoulder for crowd movements and demonstrations, to better capture the insurrectionary momentum.

A double step that places the Th Resorts group at the forefront in terms of sustainable hospitality. In the wake of a path already started in the pre-pandemic era, the Paduan company has in fact on the one hand adopted an international sustainability certification rating for its own structures and on the other hand, as anticipated in the latest issue of Travel Quotidiano, it has closed an agreement with Dolomiti Energia to guarantee all its energy supplies coming exclusively from renewable sources.

Il Si Rating – Sustainability impact rating – it is specifically an index created by Arban innovative start-up based in Trento and joint-stock benefit company from 2021, based on internationally recognized instruments, such as Sasb Materiality Map (Sustainability accounting standards board), ISO certifications related to sustainability issues, industry best practices and European directives and regulations. At the same time it is also a strategic tool for analyzing, managing and communicating sustainability. With Si Rating, Th Resorts therefore obtained a rating of 70 out of 100 on the ESG criteria (Environmental, social, governance; level achieved Bronze). Not only that: the company has also just released its own first sustainability reportdeveloped on the basis of the international standards GRI, Global reporting initiative.

“Sustainability – says the President of Th Resorts, Graziano Debellini – is one of the values that has always been part of our DNA. Today it has become a central theme and qualifies the company for its seriousness, vision and commitment perspective. It is a strategic issue for all our stakeholders and increasingly important in guiding travelers’ choices. For this reason we have embarked on a path supported by Arb, which is based on analyzes, measurements, reports and on a training program aimed at all the staff of our company “.

With this in mind, the company has therefore decided over the years to direct its energy choices towards realities that supply green energy. A ten-year agreement was therefore signed in recent days with Dolomiti Energia, a historic partner, which will guarantee a totally green energy supply. “Globally, the tourism sector contributes 8% of emissions – concludes Debellini – We are proud to be the only company to have a totally green energy supply. This action turned out to be even more strategic because it not only significantly contributes to the transition towards an economic model no longer based on fossil fuels, but it protects the company from price increases and fluctuations”.

In the Satyricon of Fellini, a film adapted from the novel of the same name by the Latin writer Pétrone, the scene of the “Festin chez Trimalcion” is of rare cinematic power. While a swarm of half-naked slaves busy themselves with service, a group of Roman notables, lasciviously reclining, go into ecstasies over the smoking entrails of a roast pig.

According to historical accounts and archaeological digs, the way the Romans fed themselves in ancient times was actually much more prosaic. Like us, ordinary mortals generally eat three meals a day: breakfast at sunrise, the lunch around noon, and cena, dinner, which gave rise – among the wealthiest – to banquets consisting of hot dishes.

To grab the food that the cooks have taken care to cut up, you use your fingers or a cochlear: a typical cutlery whose shape is reminiscent of a spoon. At the top, the bowl, slightly domed, is used to contain bites; at the bottom, a sharp pointed handle allows for pricking food and picking teeth. A few beautiful examples in silver, copper or pewter have been found in the Hoxne hoard, kept in the British Museum.

Nowadays, the object has disappeared from kitchens. During the meals and culinary workshops that she organizes around Arles, Mireille Chérubini, a cook passionate about ancient Roman gastronomy, offers her guests the opportunity to use reproductions of cochlear, shaped with a 3D printer.

On this spring evening, a little wind of experimental gastronomy is blowing through the alleys of the Jardins de la Fontaine, in Nîmes. On the sidelines of the Roman Days and its program of shows and historical re-enactments, the municipality of the ancient Gallo-Roman city has set up a large period banquet.

At nightfall, guided by the light of oil lamps, 150 curious gourmets put on togas and laurel wreaths before settling around a large table. On one side of the plate, a parchment details the different stages of this dinner inspired by the recipe repertoire of Apicius, a wealthy Roman cook at the end of the Iis century BC. On the other, a tin alloy cochlear will serve as the only cutlery.

In the last three to four weeks we have been above the sales volumes of three to four years ago“. Thus begins the chief product officer tour operating of the Alpitour group, Franco Campazzo, speaking of the latest booking trends: “Since the skies reopened, sales have been steadily increasing.” And the trend is essentially global: “Egypt is going strong on all three of its main beach destinations, Sharm, Marsa Alam and Marsa Matrouh, but Nile cruises are also doing well. There Greece and the Spain, on the other hand, they had fallen asleep a little, but now we find it hard to keep up with them. In Africa there is the case Madagascar: when we reopened we were afraid of hurting ourselves. But now we are chasing the air seats, so much so that from the end of July we already have plans for rdouble the Neos capacity with two rotations per week“.

Across the ocean, the Caribbean is serving the traditional low season. Here too, however, there are positive surprises, above all Cuba: “After the two years of the pandemic, we feared for the quality of the facilities. Again, we therefore took our fair share of risks – adds Campazzo -. But I personally went to Fit in Varadero and I was able to touch the services of the local resorts, which have done a great job of renewing the product “. And if on the other side of the world, the East still has some precluded goals such as China, or difficult to approach such as Japan, remain the Maldives that “are going as if there is no tomorrow”. In short, after Italy and the return of the medium range, only the long haul was missing: “Now all the pieces of the puzzle are (almost) in place“, Observes Campazzo.

Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done. Furthermore, the Alpitour group is in the middle of the implementation phase of the reorganization process Trevolution: “The seamless pillar – Campazzo always reveals – is the one that moved a little later than the others, but today the Eden Viaggi brand is once again the second in the group for the number of passengers. The brand that is currently giving us more satisfaction is probably Bravo which, also thanks to the acquisition of the former Eden Villages, can now count on a portfolio of 35 villages. An offer dimension that drags sales and gives security to agencies, especially in this restart phase. In general, it seems to me that we have done a good job of differentiating the line between Bravo, SeaClub Francorosso and Alpiclub ”. Maybe something is still missing from the Ciao Clubs, Campazzo says: “It is a hybrid product, which needs a more precise location. But we are in the first year of a complicated process and it takes time. Previous models also tended to make the mass-market product progressively more elitist. We would like to reverse the trend and reconstruct an offer suitable for all budgets and all guests “.

The storm washes the streets of the city of the Basque coast. Who dares to go out that evening will certainly be rewarded with a good karmic point. In the Salle de Sillon, with their noses in the map, a few agents of nirvana who have dared to brave the elements are already enjoying the associations of Mathieu Rostaing-Tayard.

The man, who flirts with his forties, family life and surfing, has been known to gourmet services since 2008, the year he opened a very inspired 126 in Lyon. His cuisine, marked by both delicate and adventurous accents, had been emulated there. Having worked with Michel Portos, Pierre Gagnaire and even Massimo Bottura, this fervent traveler criss-crossed South America and Asia before settling down in Lyon to open Café Sillon in 2015 and set off again. Finally, he seems to have found an anchor in Biarritz. In his luggage, he slipped Jean-Christophe Bourgeot, who accompanied him in the kitchen in Lyon and who today animates the tables of Sillon with his contagious good nature.

The temptation is great to choose the tasting menu. Everything gives the feeling of being an insatiable hunter: from the peas to the flower of beans, lemon and sea urchin, not forgetting the bottarga pig’s trotter and the turbot… However, a strange intuition guides us towards a more restricted dinner, a constraint from which may result a delectable frustration.

To start, panisses brushed with pimenton are lined up, hidden under a veil of pork belly. They have the politically incorrect appearance of surimis wrapped in their plastic sheet. Once the visual confusion has been overcome, the tasting begins. The good-natured character of the chickpea is heightened by the heat of the pepper immediately calmed by the fat of the bacon. A few fennel seeds sprinkled here and there crackle in the middle of this mellow fire.

The mackerel, on the other hand, is disconcerting. It is presented on skewers. Three pieces chosen and grilled on the barbecue: the tenderloin, the neck, the belly. Each in their own way, they will accompany white asparagus, both silky and bitter. The tenderloin, at first, resonates with bitterness, as it is sprinkled with yuzu bark. The necklace appeals to our cannibalistic instincts. The fingers rummage between the bones of the fish in order to flush out the smallest parcels of flesh stuffed with melting collagen.

White asparagus and mackerel.

For its part, the belly, lacquered Japanese style, crisps with a regressive sugar. Lips are licked, fingers cleaned with a hot towel. This is an unforgettable moment. It is however jostled by the pissaladière and sweetbreads, to be continued. Under amazed taste buds an inversion of paradigms takes place where the noble offal becomes the textured condiment of iodized seaweed, seasoned with pepper; while the anchovies from the pissaladière mixed with candied onions serve as meat whose juices become worse than a drug. Spiritual elevation is at its peak. No matter the storm.

Go World met the Roman agencies at the Capitoline Hard Rock Café for the presentation of Crossroads Maldives, the integrated multi-island resort that includes two 5 and 4 star hotels: the Hard Rock Hotel Maldives and the Saii Lagoon Maldives Curio Collection by Hilton are immersed in the Emboodhoo lagoon, just 15 minutes by boat from Male International Airport.

“Crossroads distorts the concept of the traditional Maldivian resort – explains Go World marketing manager, Lucia Fava -. Between the two structures there is an 800-meter marina with restaurants, spas, shopping and entertainment and the focus on family holidays is very strong. For children there are Junior clubs with organized activities and also the possibility of getting closer to the Maldivian ecosystem by practicing water sports and diving “.

For bookings at Hard Rock Hotel Maldives and Saii Lagoon Maldives made before June 30, with a view to stays until August 31, Go World special offers dedicated to families therefore provide seven nights with breakfast at the Hard Rock Hotel, while at Saii Lagoon the offer is always seven nights with free upgrade from full board to all-inclusive, always until 31st August 2022. From 1st July to 31st September summer camps for children are also free, as are yoga, water aerobics, pedal boats and kayaks, bicycles, and snorkeling equipment. The two Crossroads resorts, in addition to the vocation for active family holidays, lend great attention to disabled guests with dedicated accesses to rooms and beaches, and the ability to get close to water experiences, including diving. Go World offers combined holidays Maldives with India and Sri Lanka, for sea and culture holidays.
